What to do if you see smoke or smell burning near your Sigenergy system

What to do if you see smoke or smell burning near your Sigenergy system

A burning smell, visible smoke, sparks, or signs of overheating near your inverter or battery are serious warning signs. Follow these steps immediately.

Do not attempt to open the inverter, battery, or any electrical enclosure — solar and battery systems carry dangerous voltages even when appearing to be off.

Step 1 — Shut down the system if it is safe to do so

If you can safely reach your switchboard without going near the affected equipment, turn off the main power switch or solar isolator. Do not approach the inverter or battery if there is active smoke or fire.

Step 2 — Do not touch the battery

If the battery unit appears to be involved, do not touch it under any circumstances. Overheated batteries can release toxic gases and remain dangerous even after a fire appears to be out. Keep everyone away from the area.

Step 3 — If there is a small, contained fire

Use a carbon dioxide or ABC dry powder fire extinguisher. Do not use water. Do not touch any electrical components during fire fighting due to the risk of electric shock.

Step 4 — If the fire is spreading

Evacuate the building immediately. Call 000. Do not re-enter the building. Let emergency services know there is a solar battery system involved.

Step 5 — After the incident

Do not attempt to restart or use the system under any circumstances, even if it appears undamaged. Contact us immediately at service@brightearthsolar.com.au so we can arrange a safety inspection before the system is used again.
