What to do if you see smoke or smell burning near your GoodWe system

What to do if you see smoke or smell burning near your GoodWe system

Smoke, sparks, a burning smell, or visible signs of overheating near your GoodWe inverter or battery are serious warning signs. Act immediately and do not attempt to open any electrical enclosures — solar and battery systems carry dangerous voltages even when they appear to be off.

Step 1 — Shut down the system if it is safe to do so

If you can safely reach your switchboard without going near the affected equipment, disconnect the solar isolator and main switch. Do not approach the inverter or battery if there is active smoke or fire near it.

Step 2 — Do not touch the battery

If the battery unit is involved, keep everyone away. Overheated batteries can release toxic gases and remain dangerous even after flames appear to be out.

Step 3 — If there is a small contained fire

Use a carbon dioxide or ABC dry powder extinguisher. Do not use water on electrical equipment. Do not touch any electrical components during fire fighting.

Step 4 — If the fire is spreading

Evacuate immediately and call 000. Let emergency services know a solar battery system is involved. Do not re-enter the building.

Step 5 — After the incident

Do not restart or use the system. Contact us immediately at service@brightearthsolar.com.au so we can arrange a full safety inspection before the system is returned to service.
