What is Backup Reserve and how do I set it?
Backup Reserve is a setting that tells your Sigenergy battery to hold a minimum charge level in reserve — so that if the grid goes down, you have stored power available to keep your home running.
Without a Backup Reserve set, your battery will discharge fully during normal operation, leaving nothing available in the event of a blackout.
How it works
When the grid is connected, your battery will discharge as normal until it reaches your Backup Reserve level — then it stops and holds that charge. The grid covers any remaining household load.
When the grid goes down, your system switches to off-grid operation and draws from the reserved battery charge to power your home.
The higher your Backup Reserve, the more power you have available during an outage — but the less battery capacity you use for day-to-day self-consumption.
How to set your Backup Reserve in the mySigen app
- Open the mySigen app
- Tap Settings in the bottom right corner
- Tap Backup Reserve
- Set your preferred percentage and save
A setting of 20–30% is a reasonable starting point for most households, giving you several hours of essential power during an outage while still making good use of your battery day to day.
Things to keep in mind
- Backup Reserve works in all operating modes as long as a Gateway is connected to your system
- During an outage, how long your reserve lasts depends on your battery capacity and how much power your home is drawing
- High-consumption appliances like air conditioners, ovens, and pool pumps will deplete your reserve much faster than lights, fridges, and device charging
