Understanding your Alpha ESS indicator lights

The lights on your Alpha ESS battery and inverter are a quick way to see how the system is going. Models vary a little (SMILE5, B3, T10 and others), but the colours mean much the same thing across the range.

Green light (steady or flashing slowly): normal operation. The battery is charging or discharging as it should. On many models the green light flashes at different speeds depending on whether the system is working or in standby - both are fine.

Green ring around the battery power button: the battery module is switched on.

No lights at all: the system is switched off. Check the battery power button and the breakers - see our article "How to restart your Alpha ESS system".

Red light: the system has a fault. Open the AlphaESS app (or the unit's display if it has one) and note the error code.

Flashing red light: usually a communication fault between the battery and inverter. A full restart often clears this - follow our restart guide.

If a red light stays on after one restart, do not keep restarting. Take a photo of the unit, note the error code from the app, and email service@brightearthsolar.com.au with your name and address - error codes tell us exactly where to look, so including one speeds things up a lot.
