How to restart your Alpha ESS system
A full restart clears many minor faults and is often the first thing to try if your Alpha ESS system shows an error or has gone offline. It takes about 10 minutes. Important: if you can see or smell burning, hear crackling, or the unit has been damaged or flooded, do NOT restart it - stay clear and contact us straight away.
Switching off (the order matters):
1. Turn off the battery by pressing and holding its power button until the light goes out. If you have more than one battery module, turn them off from the bottom module up (last to first).
2. Turn off the battery breaker on the unit (usually located near the power button).
3. Turn off the PV isolator and the inverter's AC breaker in your switchboard (usually labelled "Solar Supply" or "Inverter").
4. Wait 5 minutes so the system fully powers down.
Switching back on (reverse order):
1. Turn the PV isolator and the AC breaker back on, along with the backup switch if your system has one.
2. Turn the battery breaker back on.
3. Press the battery power button once - the ring around it should light up green. With multiple battery modules, start from the top module down.
4. Give the system a couple of minutes to start up, then check the status light is green and your app shows the system online (allow up to 15 minutes for monitoring data to reappear).
Please note: Alpha ESS models vary (SMILE5, B3, T10 and others), so your switches may be laid out a little differently. If your unit does not match these steps, or the same fault comes back after a restart, take a photo of the unit and any error code and email service@brightearthsolar.com.au - we will take it from there.
