My circuit breaker keeps tripping - what should I check?
A circuit breaker that trips once in a blue moon can just be a passing surge, but one that keeps tripping is telling you something. Safety first: resetting a breaker once is fine, but do not keep forcing it back on. If it trips again straight away, leave it off and contact us.
What to check first:
1. Which breaker is it? Open your switchboard and look for the one in the off position. Breakers are usually labelled - the ones for your solar system typically say something like "Solar Supply", "Inverter" or "Battery".
2. If it is a general household circuit (power points or lights), unplug whatever was running when it tripped - a faulty appliance is the most common cause - then reset the breaker once.
3. If it is a solar or battery breaker, reset it once and check your monitoring app after 10-15 minutes to see that the system has come back online.
4. If any breaker trips again shortly after resetting, stop. Leave it off and get in touch - repeated tripping usually means a genuine electrical fault that needs a qualified electrician, and continuing to reset it can be dangerous.
Good to know: if your solar breaker is off, your home simply draws from the grid as normal - nothing is unsafe, you are just not making solar power until it is fixed.
